MUSS Amazing Race 2008

On the 1st of March 2008, the 1st ever Malaysian United Sikh Students (MUSS) Amazing Race was held. 24 teams participated in this event which came from various colleges and universities. Each team consisted 4 members.
At 8am registration started in Sabha house Titiwangsa. All the participants were given the amazing race exclusive t-shirts. Although it was raining, all the teams arrived on time. Sukhveer Singh the advisor briefed all the participants on the rules of the race and also gave them the necessary numbers in case of emergency. After the ardaas, the participants were given their 1st clue. It was a sight to see all the participants running rushing to their 1st check point.
The 1st clue directed all the teams to the Titiwangsa lake where their 1st task was waiting for them. They had to segregate 3 different types of dhals into 3 different plates before obtaining their next clue.
Next destination was PJ Gurdwara. All the teams had to take the train to the location. As they arrived at the station, the station master (Harvinder Singh) explained the next task to them. This task required them to work as a team and to listen instructions carefully. One of the stations was in Dharamsala Gurdwara. Participants were required to drink a mixed drink prepared by our very own Phenji Jasminder Kaur as they threw the dice and picked the ingredients of their drinks. Some had tough luck with the drinks but it sure tested their determination to continue.
Dataran Merdeka was one station where the patience of the participants was tested. They had to join puzzle pieces back into a picture. Some broke down, but there were also some teams which hanged in together and completed the task successfully.
“Gucci for RM10″ was one of the clues that led the teams to High Street Gurdwara which is located very near to Petaling Street. The station master told the teams that they were required to locate a MUSS crew in Petaling Street. There they had to drink the famous ‘air mata kucing” before they could get their next clue.
Then it was time for some Limbo Rock in Pudu Gurdwara. The participants were required to limbo to obtain the next clue. One of the traditional games ‘konda-kondi” was the task at Padang Merbok which gave some of the participants a tough time.
In the evening, the participants had their second break after lunch in Sungai Besi Gurdwara for tea. There Veerji Amarjit Singh explained the teams that they would have to sing Deh Shiva in order to complete the task. Some had a reality check while doing that task.
The last clue directed them to where it started which is Sabha house Titiwangsa. Although the participants faced a lot of challenges such as the bad weather and being stuck in a train, most of them completed the race. This showed the determination that they had and, a quality of a true Sikh.
After the race, Veerji Malkith Singh was invited to present the winners what they deserved after all the challenge they went through. All the participants were given a participation certificate as a token of their determination. An Amazing experience indeed The Amazing Race 2008.
